FACE Supporters Save Sophie!

What began as a normal evening quickly turned into a heartbreaking moment for a young military family in our community. Sweet Sophie, a five year old Pug, tried to jump onto the couch to cuddle with her family but slipped, and fell backwards. She landed hard on her back and began screaming in pain. Sophie suffered from IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease from acute trauma), which can be devastating and completely debilitating. When Sophie tried to walk, she would collapse to the floor, dragging her little body to move. She needed surgery but her family could not afford the cost. That’s when they reached out to FACE and our supporters answered their call for help!

In less than 12 hours, over 80 donors raised enough to fund the Hemilaminectomy that Sophie needed. She had surgery Thursday (3/17) and went home Saturday. We also had donors reach out to offer Sophie free rehabilitation services, doggie stairs, and even a PupSaver carseat! We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support Sophie received from the animal lovers in our community. What started out in heartbreak ended in a community effort to give a little Pug a second chance at a life. We would like to sincerely thank each and every one of you.

A Note of Thanks from Sophie’s Family:

“We would like to personally thank you for all you’ve done for Sophie. It was an absolutely terrifying time for us, but thanks to you, you have given our baby a second chance at life. Words cannot describe how grateful we are for everything you’ve done for Sophie and for us as a family. As you may know, we are a young military family from Indiana, starting out on our own in California. Sophie is our light, our rock, that we can lean to when we’re falling on hard times, or when we just need someone to cheer us up.

Some people say “oh she’s just a dog”, but not to us. Sophie is just as much as family as our own daughter. We’re glad to say that Sophie’s surgery went well with no complications, but it wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for you. Thank you for everything you’ve done, we are forever grateful for your kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand to someone in need. We will keep you updated with Sophie’s road to recovery, and again, thank you for blessing Sophie’s future.”
