The Morris Animal Foundation is seeking Golden Retrievers to participate in the first phase of a large-scale canine health study. The aim of the study is to track the health of Golden Retrievers over the course of their lifetimes in order to gain knowledge about preventing and treating cancer and other diseases in dogs.

According to the Morris Animal Foundation, more than half of Golden Retrievers will develop cancer, and cancer is the leading cause of death in all dogs over the age of two. Scientists conducting the study hope to gain new insights into how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer and other canine diseases.

Who can participate?

• Golden owners over the age of 18 in the contiguous United States.
• Healthy Golden Retrievers under the age of 2 at the time of enrollment in the study.
• Purebred Goldens with a three generation pedigree.

What are the requirements?

• Study participation for the lifetime of your dog.
• Completion of online questionnaires.
• Annual veterinary visits with samples of blood, urine, feces, hair and nails collected.
• Microchip your dog.
• Collection of tumor samples if applicable.

The Morris Animal Foundation will reimburse owners $75 a year to help offset vet costs.
