Video: Injured Police Dog Goes Home After Being Shot in Line of Duty
A Yarmouth, Massachusetts Police Department K-9 named Nero was shot when he accompanied his human partner Sgt. Sean Gannon on a call to serve an arrest warrant. Sadly, Sgt. Gannon was also shot and died from his injuries.
Nero, a Belgian Malinois, was taken to Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists, where he underwent surgery and has been recovering from his injuries. He was released from the hospital on the same day as his partner’s funeral.
Nero had been with Sgt. Gannon for over a year, since he was 16 months old. The Yarmouth Police Department reports that a retired K-9 handler will care for Nero until he fully recovers, and then Nero will live with the Gannon family.
Here’s a local news video about brave Nero.
