The Humane Society Legislative Fund Endorses Candidates for November Election
How can animal lovers ensure that they are electing political candidates who believe in the humane treatment of animals? The Humane Society Legislative Fund has created an endorsements website that features their picks for candidates who have solid positions and records on animal protection issues.
The HSLF also produces the well-known Humane Scorecard which tracks each U.S. Congressperson’s record on animal welfare issues. They also provide scorecards for certain states like California, Maryland, Texas, and New Mexico.
The HSLF endorsements site can be searched a number of ways so you can easily find the candidate, state, or issue you’re looking for. You can narrow your search by U.S. state, and also by positions, endorsements, ballot initiatives, and office (President, House, and Senate).
What types of legislation do the HSLF-endorsed candidates support? You can find out who sponsored or introduced key animal welfare bills such as the Pet and Women Safety (PAWS) Act, the Global Anti-Poaching Act, the Humane Cosmetics Act, the Prevent Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act, and many others.
The HSLF endorsements site also provides other interesting information, such as which legislators scored 100 (or better) on their scorecard, and even which lawmakers are veterinarians…there are 3 vets in Congress, by the way!
