Photographer Captures Sadness of Dogs Left Alone in Cars

The photography book The Silence of Dogs in Cars by Martin Usborne captures the feelings of many animal lovers when they see dogs sitting in cars waiting for their humans to return.

Martin’s empathy for the dogs comes out of personal experience.  As he explains on his website, he has vivid memories of being left alone in a car as a young child.  Around the same time, he saw a dog being abused on a TV show.  Both experiences left a strong impression on him: “a fear of being alone and unheard.”

The pictures in the book capture the subtle emotions of the dogs, not just sadness but also expectancy, anger, and dejection.
