Animal Protection Laws in the US: What Were the Best and Worst States for Animals in 2015?
The Animal Legal Defense Fund has released its latest annual report on animal protection laws in the United States. Each year, the ALDF analyzes the animal protection laws for all 50 states and determines the rankings from best to worst. How does your state measure up?
U.S. States with the Strongest Animal Protection Laws
- Illinois
- Oregon
- Maine
- California
- Michigan
U.S. States with the Weakest Animal Protection Laws
- Kentucky
- Iowa
- Wyoming
- Utah
- North Dakota
What are some of the highlights? The ALDF notes that New Jersey is the most improved state, thanks to new anti-dogfighting laws. 29 U.S. states now have laws in place that allow animals to be included in domestic violence protection orders. More states are also drafting laws prohibiting leaving animals in hot cars, under “reckless conduct” legislation.
