Victory for California’s Animals: Senate Bill 917 Passed!
Senate Bill 917 was signed into law by Governor Brown. Now the penalties for those convicted of animal neglect will be on par with those issued for intentional animal cruelty.
An animal suffering from neglect is deprived of the necessities for life – shelter, food, water, veterinary care. They live in misery: ultimately dying or sustaining severe injury from starvation, dehydration, exposure to the elements and treatable diseases.
SB 917 also bans the sale of animals in back alleys, parking lots, carnivals and similar public places. These animals are often sick, underage, and lacking verterinary care.
Thank you Governor Brown’s office for making California’s animals safe from abuse and neglect.
