Dogs Trust Offers Free Online Sound Therapy Program
Loud or unusual sounds can be scary for dogs, cats, and other pets. How can you help your pet become comfortable with strange sounds? The UK animal welfare charity Dogs Trust has some free help for pet owners.
Dogs Trust has partnered with 2 veterinarians who specialize in pet behavioral therapy. They have created a free sound therapy program, available on the Dogs Trust website.
The program consists of a series of audio tracks and training booklets that let you safely and gradually expose and desensitize your dog to different sounds, especially during the key developmental stages of puppyhood (3-16 weeks of age).
The sounds are divided into 3 different categories:
- Scary sounds like fireworks and thunder
- Everyday noises like traffic and household appliances
- Baby sounds like crying and cooing to help your dog get used to a new baby in the home
Each sound category comes with its own downloadable how-to booklet with detailed training advice for dog owners.
